Janet Cynthia (Hay) West: 1947-2024

Janet began Kindergarten at Trinity Valley School; her mother Carol Hay was instrumental in the creation of the kindergarten and was Janets teacher. Janet attended Blue Lake School from second through seventh grade.

Margaret Patricia Huffines February 27, 1946 - June 25, 2024

Meg graduated from Greensboro Senior High and nursing school and began her career as a nurse. Later, with her masters degree, she became a nurse practitioner and also taught nursing school classes.

Mattie L. Culver: 1938-2024

Mattie worked as a meter-maid for Eureka PD, then after obtaining her nursing degree she worked as a home health nurse, public health nurse, public health nursing supervisor and a nurse practitioner in Dr. Burleson’s office, then as temporary nursing director and supervisor in public health nursing, then worked seven years in the California Children’s Services Program. Mattie loved learning about other cultures and lived and worked as a public health nurse in Tok, Alaska.

Frank Shaughnessy: 1960-2024

Frank started a position at Cal Poly Humboldt in August of 1996 as a biology and marine botany professor and worked there until his retirement due to illness in August of 2021. For several years, he co-chaired the Biology Department.

Paula Casillas Taizan: 1927-2024

In her early years, she had great stories of traveling north to the Gilroy/San Jose area and picking fruits and vegetables with her family. During World War II, her family kept and maintained a large Victory Garden.

Jacob Ryan Osier: 1978-2024

He was a life-long member of Little People of America and enjoyed the many friendships he made. He was a Star Wars fanatic and a 49er football fan.

Carl Duane Fullbright: 1942-2024

Upon returning home, this epiphany led him to attend University of California at Irvine, where he graduated with honors, and ultimately to a rewarding career in medicine. Graduating from the USC Keck School of Medicine in 1970, Carl became one of the first board certified emergency room physicians in the United States at Long Beach Community Hospital.

Nancy Ann Brunson: 1939-2024

Nancy was a proud member of both the Yurok and Tolowa tribes. She and her cousin, Gene Brundin, loved telling stories about their family heritage.

Douglas John Jager: 1930-2024

The middle child of Cornelius and Anne Jager, Doug grew up in east Oakland living next door to his Dutch immigrant Vermeer grandparents at a time when it was safe to ride his bicycle around the area. One of his favorite childhood adventures was to ride horses with his friend all over the Oakland Hills.
