Leadership seems to have come early in life. In sixth grade he was elected president of La Jolla elementary School and was especially proud to have risen to Captain of the Patrol Boys that controlled traffic for students.

Up until being diagnosed with inoperable terminal cancer, Erin energetically swam several miles per day in an open water facility for her own enjoyment. She also rode her beautiful horse Rio, always trailed by her loving doggies Manley and Zipper.

Gloria DeZordo: 1926-2024

In 1968, they built their house on Rose Avenue and settled into life in Ferndale. Because of all the years of visiting and the friends they had made, they felt like they were home.

At age 21, Seba joined the Foreign Service of the United States Department of State and completed a two-year tour of duty, beginning in Damascus, Syria, and transferring to Istanbul, Turkey, during the Suez Crisis. Seba married John Elliott Pfingston on AUG. 24, 1957, and they raised three daughters, Cecile Seba, Yvonne Marie, and Amy Annette, in Jefferson County, Colorado, and Sunnyvale, California.

Bobbie attended College of the Redwoods pursuing her degree in early childhood education. After she graduated she went to work as a director at Moore Avenue Children’s Center in Eureka.

Annette is survived by her mother, Mary Ellen Laffranchi, her brother, Donald Laffranchi, as well as her children: Kassie McCall, Tina White, Paula Dickerson, and James Adams, along with their spouses: Rodney McCall, Paul White, Maggie Adams, Danny Dickerson, Jeremy Farley and Sean Hamilton. Annette’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jordan Kortus and husband Ben, Wyatt McCall and wife McKenzie, Myranda Hamilton, Madison Adams, Austin White, Emma McCall, Samiro Adams, and Taviano Adams, Ashlen Dickerson, Trace Dickerson, as well as her great-grandchildren: Cooper, Reign, Jackson, Ramiri, Walker, Baker (to arrive in June), and another great-grandchild on the way.

He died of old age, of nothing in particular, of a body that just grew too old and fragile to go on. He quietly stopped breathing, passing away peacefully, on to the Great Spirit or to see God or the Buddha or maybe all three, as we believe he had some questions for them.

David Lee Sams was born on May 18, 1931, in Portland, Oregon, to Lee and Marguerite Sams and passed peacefully on Feb. 10, 2024, surrounded by his sons, at Alder Bay Assisted Living in Eureka, California. He lived in Humboldt County for the past 60-plus years, primarily in Ferndale followed by Eureka.

It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Carol J. Lauer, who departed on March 7, with her adoring daughter by her side. Carol was born in Berkeley, California, in 1930 to Dagmar (Larson) Knudsen and Morris Knudsen.
