The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the suspect of a homicide occurring in McKinleyville Monday evening. The suspect, 26-year-old Jasen Dwain Coley, is wanted in connection to a fatal shooting on July 3, 2023, outside a residence on the 2200 block of Silverbrook Court.

UPDATE: The Arcata Police Department has identified the shooting victim as Joshua Paul Gephart, 36, of Fortuna, who had been living in the Valley West area of Arcata, according to a press release. PREVIUOSLY: The Arcata Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early yesterday morning, leaving a 36-year-old Fortuna man shot dead.

Stickers Threatening Violence Against Queer People Found in Arcata Marsh

While out on a walk at the Arcata Marsh, a concerned Journal reader found several stickers displaying homophobic slurs, threats of violence and anti-Semitic sentiment. The stickers were placed on at least five traffic signs in the area near the Arcata Marsh parking lot.
