AG Seeks to Force St. Joseph Hospital to Comply with Agreement in Abortion Case

California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office filed a motion June 9 in Humboldt County Superior Court seeking a judge’s order enforcing a stipulation reached in a lawsuit brought against Providence St. Joseph Hospital last year requiring it to comply with state’s Emergency Service Law and provide emergency abortive procedures when they are deemed medically necessary. “The terms of the stipulation and court order against Providence St. Joseph are clear,” Bonta said in a press release.

A Humboldt County Sheriff's deputy fatally shot a 29-year-old man yesterday afternoon at the Bear River Recreation Center who was allegedly armed and combative. According to a press release, deputies responded to the center at 2:16 p.m. to a report of a man with a bloody, bandaged arm "actively dripping blood throughout the facility."

As he dug deeper into the case, defense investigator Rob Shelton began to doubt the prosecution's narrative of the crime.

On March 10, Food for People and the North Coast Grower’s Association’s Harvest Hub were rattled by news that Trump administration cuts at the United States Department of Agriculture were shuttering a program — the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement — that was providing Food for People about $360,000 annually to purchase produce from local farms through the North Coast Growers Association’s Harvest Hub. The program had reverberating impacts, helping the food bank secure thousands of pounds monthly for its approximately 21,000 clients, while supporting local farms by purchasing food with funds from outside the county that then went to pay local wages and support local families.
