The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Californians Turn in Poachers and Polluters Program (CalTIP) is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the poacher responsible for killing four Roosevelt elk in Humboldt County last December. On Sunday, Dec. 9, 2018, CDFW wildlife officers responded to a poaching report in the Maple Creek area, southeast of Blue Lake.

Earthquake Strikes Near Pine Hills

A preliminary magnitude-3.8 earthquake struck near the Eureka enclave of Pine Hills this morning, with reports of ground shaking spanning from  Hydesville to McKinleyville, according to USGS. The 10:19 a.m. quake struck at a depth of almost 13 miles.

McKinleyville, CA - On Saturday, May 18, 2019, at approximately 7:28 a.m., the Humboldt Communications Center received a call of vehicle versus pedestrian hit and run traffic collision located on Central Avenue, south of Bella Vista Road. Clinton Eugene Deckert II, age 47 of McKinleyville was walking in a northerly direction along the east shoulder of Central Avenue, south of Bella Vista Road.

According to an EPD release, detectives “developed probable cause” that Marquez was involved in the theft and requested the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which took over the investigation. The federal warrant was issued for Marquez on May 10, 2018, one year to the day of his sentencing, and he was arrested by ATF special agents on July 16, 2018, in a home just outside Eureka.
