Remains of Missing Man From Illinois Found

On June 27, 2019, at about 10:40 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were contacted by State Parks rangers regarding an abandoned vehicle belonging to a possible missing person located in the Dolason Prairie area of the Redwood National and State Parks. Sheriff’s deputies, National and State Parks rangers, California Department of Fish and Wildlife wardens, a California Highway Patrol helicopter and members of the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse were deployed to search the area for the missing person.

On June 26, 2019, at about 9:21 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 2300 block of Grace Avenue in McKinleyville for the report of a physical altercation occurring, with one male subject armed with a knife. When deputies arrived on scene, they located the suspect, 38-year-old Jonathan Albert Boone, outside of the residence.

On 06/25/2019, at approximately 2318 hours, Humboldt Area CHP responded to a report of a vehicle collision on SR-36, east of Dinsmore several miles onto a rough private mountain dirt trail. Upon arrival, officers determined a 1984 Jeep Laredo had been involved in a solo roll-over traffic collision.

Some may not realize it, but the two-part name Sequoia sempervirens uses the name of the genus first as Sequoia followed by the species name sempervirens. While some tree genera or groups will contain many species, the only species of Sequoia is Sequoia sempervirens, our beloved redwood.

UPDATE: The CHP has identified the three people killed in a crash on Patrick’s Point Drive early this morning as 44-year-old Trinidad resident James Cohee Jr., 28-year-old Eureka resident Chloe Chapman and 32-year-old Arcata resident Cody Behler.

“Fire is starting to spread into the wildlands north of the trailer,” the incident commander said over the scanner about 6:50 a.m. A minute or two later, he added, “The fire is spreading at a slow rate to the north approximately 50 foot in diameter.”

State Route 36 closed this morning near Pepperwood Falls east of Swain’s Flat Outpost after a tree fell into utility lines and brought them down across the roadway. The first report came in about 7:40 a.m.

On 06/23/2019, at approximately 1554 hours, Humboldt Area CHP responded to a report of a vehicle collision on SR-36, west of Dinsmore. Upon arrival officers determined a 1988 Honda sedan had been involved in a head-on collision with a 2018 Dodge Pickup driven by 44 year old Nate Howe of Eureka.

The study found more than 132 coastal counties that would face costs in excess of $1 billion and 14 states that would have to build more than $10 billion worth of sea walls. The hardest hit would be Florida, the study found, which would face nearly $76 billion in seawall construction costs.
