Two ensemble shows, each at roughly the same time, and within walking distance of each other. First up at 7:30 p.m. at the Outer Space, talented rock duo Silver and Nails will be joined by “adult contemporary soft metal” act Throw me the Whip, which I can only assume is a reference to the Raiders of the Lost Ark, as well as one man star cowboy act Mister Moonbeam doing T. Rex covers.

A cool, early-hour experimental music night is happening at the Miniplex at 6 p.m. Australian/Los Angeles duo Stevie Richards and Mike Meanstreetz bring the traveling sound to the stage, where they will be supported by two local acts, synth-popping maestros Elegant Humanoid and sound-blaster, tone bender IDYL.

Los Angeles’ Wand has been at it for north of a decade, where over five records and lots have touring have established themselves as lords of a certain perfect sound, almost impossible give justice to by means of explanation, but I’ll give it a try in the same way Carl Sagan famously showed a generation of TV viewers what the shadow of a fourth-dimensional object would look like. Wand is music for meandering through a landscape which doesn’t exist, but feels like home, and if made physical might look like deserts in a Dyson sphere full of bubbles of starlight.

North Country Fair Celebrates 50 Years

Keep your fingers crossed for sunshine and join the celebration as the North Country Fair marks its 50th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 21, and Sunday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Arcata Plaza (free). This year’s party features 175 art and craft vendors, heaps of local food booths and three lively stages of music and entertainment with acts running continuously all day long.

Blu Egyptian is a Chico-based jam band that does the crossing genre streams thing more than noodling. The group has come through town a few times before and seems to have built up a decent amount of steam from steady touring, so good on ’em there.

'For When You Get Lost' in Humboldt

Surrounded by friends, family and beer lovers at the Arcata Theatre Lounge on the evening of Sept. 5, Meredith Maeir sat in suspense with the rest of the crowd to see her onscreen debut in the motion picture For When You Get Lost. “I didn’t even know if my scene was going to make it into the film until three days ago,” said Maier, who co-owns Six Rivers Brewery with Talia Nachshon.
